Obama Just Don't Excite Me

This is something I have been meaning to say for a long time, but TBogg says it better than I can, so check out his post (and the posts he links to) about why Barack Obama just isn't living up to his hype.

For my part, I don't mind if Obama runs in 2008. I'd even like to see him win, because I think his basic instinct, deep down, is to do the right things. But it bothers the hell out of me that after all the praise heaped on him in 2004, he's basically just been as wishy-washy as a soapy, wet dishrag.

Then I think back and remember that what he was largely praised for was appealing to all Americans and I think, yup, should have seen it then.

The guy's got no fire.

None of the current Democrats excite me, especially as Presidential contenders. I wish that weren't the case, but they all seem too meek and/or accomodating to the other side of the aisle.

Also, I keep saying this, and I'm going to say it again: This country is not going to vote for a woman for President. They also are not going to vote for a black person. America as a whole is still too sexist and racist to vote for anyone other than a white male for our highest office. It sucks and it's an attitude we need to keep working to change, but in the meantime it's still in place. Which means that if the Dems want to win in 2008, they need to pick a white guy for their candidate, and probably a white guy for VP, too.

(This is all based, of course, on the idea that votes count. Which is a shaky premise these days, I know. I guess in a stolen election, anyone could be "chosen," just look at the current White House occupant. What I'd really like is for Gore to get a chance to hold the office he was elected to in 2000, but he keeps saying he's not interested...sigh.)

I like Feingold. If he runs, I might get excited. Also Edwards. I can't help but like him, although I'd need to know more about him before I could unequivocally endorse him. But Obama, Hillary, Warner - they all leave me cold.
