"A word after a word after a word is power”

Glenn Greenwald has a good post up at Salon's War Room about the reasons behind the oppostion to Joe Lieberman.

He makes the point that it is not Lieberman's support for the Iraq War that has caused many Democrats to turn against him, but rather it is his decision to adopt the exact position and rhetoric of the Bush Administration on issues ranging far beyond Iraq. Lieberman, in other words, has abandoned Democratic positions, whether pro or anti-war for Republican positions. And, in doing so, he has openly, viciously and dishonestly attacked the majority in the Democratic Party.

Given that, it is not surprising Dems in Connecticut are making it clear he is unfit to represent them in the U.S. Senate.

In my opinion, Lieberman, perhaps putting too much credence in Bush's popularity, decided to hitch his star to the president's. When Bush's star proved to be nothing more than a hunk of junk iron, Lieberman found himself falling with it. It's sad, but it's nobody's fault but his own.
