What's up with "Deadwood"?

I love the show, but (much like the Sopranos) the season finale ended on an anticlimactic note. I just wonder if this is some new trend in tv. Just kind of fade out the last show of the last season of your series. Must be art or something.

Of course, both shows have what amounts to mini-seasons coming up. I'm thinking Milch is saving the fireworks for the two Deadwood movies he's doing for HBO. Still, I admit to being a little, tiny bit disappointed.
