Lovin' John Danforth

Wow.

From what I see in that Raw Story article, I'm going to have to read his book when it comes out. If only we could have had this guy as vice president. (If only Dick Cheney hadn't been in charge of the selection process. If only he hadn't unethically picked himself.)

They talk about John McCain being a man of principle. This is a man of principle. Here's Danforth on the drive to impose an official religion on this country:

"Some people have asked me whether America is a Christian country. The answer must be no, for to call this a Christian country is to say that non-Christians are of some lesser order, not full fledged citizens of one nation."

And here he is on the drive to make second class citizens of gays and lesbians:

"I think that the only purpose served by the campaign for the amendment is the humiliation of gay Americans, advocated by the Christian right and eagerly supported by its suitors in the Republican Party. In reality, it is gay bashing."

McCain doesn't come close.
