Digby has a good analysis on what the election results say about the Democratic Party. Basically, according to Digby, what they indicate is that the Democratic Party reflects the real mainstream America, which is far larger and more diverse than recent usuage of the term would indicate.

I have to agree. And I think a diverse Congress is exactly what this country needs to counteract the institution's recent domination by a single, narrow ideology.
