Religion's Not Really An Opiate At All.

People on opiate's tend to be much calmer than religious people. Maybe it's a stimulant. The meth of the masses. That makes more sense. Just like meth users with meth, religion addicts think about it (and talk about it) all the time, they'll do anything for a fix, they don't care who they hurt in pursuit of a fix, and generally speaking the only people who want to hang around with them are other users.

Anyway, Retardo has a post up at Sadly No! titled "On Kick-Starting The Rapture: An Ecumenical Condemnation", that discusses the recent LA Times article on millenialists. Since his poison pen is far more potent than my own, and since I believe religious nuts deserve everything he gives them and more, I'll suggest you pay a visit to Sadly No! and check it out.

Oh, now I have a new word to use: Talibangelical. Sweet!

Alas for religion, though. In whatever form, it should be a path to enlightenment. Instead, too many religions prefer to keep their flocks in the dark. Better to light your own candle, in that case.

On the other hand, we now have the Jews looking for a red heifer and the Native Americans keeping their eyes peeled for a white buffalo; if we could only locate the fabled blue ox what a July 4th barbeque we could all have!
