"Fucking and Feminism"
I think more people, men and women, need to be saying what this article says. Plus, I can't pass up a chance to post the word "fuck" in a headline.
Update: Amanda at Pandagon, does not share my view that what Rachel Kramer Bussel is saying in the article linked above is particularly gratifying. I have to admit, having read Amanda's critique and having re-read Bussel's column, I have gained a new perspective on the latter. Unlike Amanda, I originally did not think Bussell was particularly targeting feminists, rather I thought the column was a response to an increasingly popular tactic on the right of accusing feminists of harming women by insisting on women's full sexual rights and promoting the Sexual Revolution. I have seen myself a number of right-wingers make this claim. The fact that some feminists make similar claims re: so-called sex-positive side of the movement means that those feminists get caught up in Bussel's criticism as well. It's actually fairly confusing.
So, if my first reading wasn't wrong and if Bussel is responding to anti-feminist attacks and not criticising feminists, she could have been more clear about it. Also, I can see Amanda's point about Bussel's focus on submission. If you're championing women's sexual choices, you should avoid only using stereotypical roles in your examples.
Check out Amanda's post. It's an extremely astute critique.
